Fantasy Favourites Read-a-thon Day 3: Casting Challenge

Today's challenge is casting characters! As mentioned yesterday in my playlist post, I don't really match songs to books, and so the same goes for actors and characters as well. I imagine it will take a while for me to find the 'perfect' pictures for my cast...

I've finished Cinder and Scarlet now, so I'll be starting on Wake by Amanda Hocking today. I hope this reread will be as positive as Cinder.

Having just finished Scarlet, I shall attempt to find pictures for the main cast: Scarlet, Wolf, Cinder, Kai, and Captain Thorne. I'll admit, this list is kind of daunting, so I'll be following Marissa Meyer's list of character traits as closely as I can.

Disclaimer (if it can really be called a disclaimer): This isn't really a movie casting per se, but how I see the characters in my head based on the photo itself. So I could be picking a younger photo of an actor who's like 50 years old as of now.

Scarlet Benoit — Karen Dillan

I can't believe this Scottish lass is 27! She could absolutely pass for 18-year-old Scarlet with a shotgun and red hoodie. Plus I love her hair. All we need to do is curl it like Scarlet's.

Wolf — Alejo Sauras

I will not apologise for this smouldering picture. His hair and jawline totally give off that wolfish vibe. This Spanish actor is like 37 years old now, so this is definitely from his younger days. I scanned Google for green-eyed actors and only this picture fit what I was looking for.

Linh Cinder — Chloe Bennet

I FINALLY FOUND A GOOD PIC OF HER IN A PONYTAIL. She's half Chinese, half American, and I love her acting in Agents of Shield! Her character, Skye, is tomboyish like Cinder and I can imagine her getting all greasy and dirty as a mechanic.

Prince (now Emperor) Kai — Kim Soo Hyun

Tried to find a colour version of this photo but couldn't. At least his hair is rather on point! Kim Soo Hyun has this crisp look about him, perfect for Kai. He even played a crown prince (and eventually an emperor) in Moon Embracing The Sun, one of my favourite Korean historical dramas!

"Captain" Carswell Thorne — Chace Crawford

This character was the easiest to cast. Chace Crawford totally has the flirtatious smile and raised eyebrows that Meyer talks about!

Queen Levana — Rebecca Mader/Charlize Theron

It's a close tie between these two. Rebecca was brilliant as the Wicked Witch of the West in OUAT, while Charlize was a spectacular Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman. Who do you think could be Queen Levana?

  1. Well hello, I love that we've gone for similar castings on each one! I love your Wolf too, great choice! Just to let you know, I don't actually KNOW that Cinder & Kai will reunite in 'Cress' because it was my choice for a scene that I would like to see happen, but I hope they do! Thanks for all your comments on my posts, for some reason Google + won't let me reply to them all!

    1. Oops, my eyes must have slipped while reading your post (is there even such a phrase D:). But I still hope they see each other in Cress, and I think it probably will happen because it'd be so weird for them to go without meeting again for more than a book!

  2. Omg! Sky from Agents of Shield! I didn't even think of her. Good pick.

  3. Haha I like your choice! We chose the same person for Queen Levana and I know a lot of people have! I also like your choice for Wolf. I think the Spanish kind of thing he has going on there, and didn't think of it at all. But the choice I love most has to be your Cinder! Perfectly on point ;)

    1. Charlize Theron is probably the go-to for an evil queen now ever since the release of Snow White and the Huntsman! XD And thanks, that pic of Alejo was exactly how I saw Wolf in my head (: Chloe was an unexpected pick for me; I never realised that she could fit the part of Cinder!

  4. I don't associate actors with books either! I haven't read book, but you sure have a beautiful cast here. :D

    1. Aww thanks Vlora :D I hope you pick up this series one day, it's really good.
